The annual BRICS Summit is a meeting of developing nations, this year held in Johannesburg. BRICS, a grouping led by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. This grouping isn’t just a China or Russia project, as some Western outlets will report. BRICS comprises nearly half of the world population, working on alternatives for global trade and development outside of domination by the G7 countries (U.S., U.K, France, Canada, Germany, Japan, Italy).

This year’s agenda focused on BRICS loans for much-needed infrastructure projects and reducing reliance on the US dollar for international trade. 6 new countries were added as formal members.
